Kaia Makihara is a professional LA-based dancer from Sonoma County, California. At age 14 he started training in breaking and other street styles which still heavily influences his movement practice. He received his BFA in Dance from California State University, Long Beach where he did most of his formal training in Modern, Ballet, and Contemporary. After graduating, he spent a year in San Francisco performing and touring with Robert Moses’ Kin, Kristen Damrow & Company, GERALDCASELDANCE, and others. In 2020 he relocated to LA where he appeared in film projects for Rebecca Lemme and the music video Summerland by Half Alive. In 2021 he began working with The TL Collective and has since performed at a number local and international venues. In 2022 he worked on various dance films for Micaela Taylor, Jessie Lee Thorne, and Yayoi Kambara. In addition, he was able to sign with Go2Talent Agency as well as present some of his own work at the AAPI showcase. Recently, he has performed live works by Dolly Sfeir, Kevin Williamson, Jessie Lee Thorne, as well as taught in Los Angeles and San Diego. Currently, he continues to freelance while attending UCLA Extension to complete his certificate in Interior Architecture and pursue his interest in Interior Design.
