Dive deep into the repertory of the legendary Pina Bausch! With iconic works such as Rite of Spring or “Sacre” participants will have the chance to learn rep from Pina’s master works with former member Stephanie Troyak. Stephanie will teach rep and incorporate dance theater techniques & elements from Pina’s works to give participants a glimpse into the world of “Tanztheater” and Pina’s way of working in this 2 day workshop. Please bring a pair of heels/dress shoes and a skirt or dress you can move in, if desired.


Breakdown of Workshop:
Each day will begin with a warmup, and will offer participants the chance to learn the iconic "Le Sacre Du Printemps," "Arien" and various excerpts from Pina Bausch's master works taught by Stephanie Troyak. The second day will incorporate theatrical "dance theater" elements, including vocal elements & theatrical excerpts that will challenge the voice and personality. The workshop will conclude with a review and informal sharing of the material learned throughout the workshop among participants. Pina Bausch Repertory “labs” are an invitation from the Pina Bausch Foundation and long standing members of Tanztheater Wuppertal to teach and share Pina’s work & her way of working in an intimate, rich & deep way. About the teacher:

Stephanie Troyak was a member with Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch from 2016-2021. During her 5 seasons there, she performed 14 works by Pina Bausch and performed in new creations with Alan Lucien Øyen, Dimitris Pappaianou, & Rainer Behr. For her role as Anna in Pina Bausch’s “Seven Deadly Sins” she was nominated for Germany’s prestigious Theater Prize “Der Faust” for Best Dancer. She received a BFA in Dance from NYU, and is currently based in New York City. She danced with Gallim and the Batsheva Ensemble before joining Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch for 5 seasons. Since then, Stephanie has performed in Bobbi Jene Smith’s “Broken Theater,” Punchdrunk’s “Sleep No More,” Melanie Laurent’s “Eugenie’s Tears” and will be starring in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride.” She will be returning to Tanztheater Wuppertal as a guest in 2025 to revive her role as Anna in “The Seven Deadly Sins.” Stephanie creates and teaches master classes around the globe, including USC, NYU, Wayne State University, The Joffrey School, Sam Houston, San Jacinto and more. She is a Dance Magazine 25 to Watch, YoungArts Winner in Dance & U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts finalist.
